Monitors are a vital part of our organization. They get down in the streams and sample the water to do an assortment of test for pollutants. MCWA lends their volunteers kits equipped with all the necessary tools to monitor their streams. The kits include tests for dissolved oxygen, nitrates-nitrogen, turbidity, temperature and orthro-phospahtes. Monitors also do a visual assessment of the streams which include stream bottom surveys, stream depth, riffle analysis, water appearance, flow observation, stream bank condition and wild life observations. Monitors report their data on a monitoring sheet through email or snail mail. The sheet is downloadable through this website or it can be picked up at our meetings. The results are compiled in an excel worksheet with graphs tracking the streams through out the year. Safety is a major concern for monitoring because often times you will be in a wooded area. Make sure you wear orange during hunting season, we don't want any needless injuries.
